Quickstart

This is a Dimmer for Europe. To run this device please connect it to your mains power supply. To add this device to your network execute the following action:

1. Set controller into Add mode and press 3 clicks on "+" or "-" button to add. If succeed, green LED flicks 4 times.
2. If an external switch panel wired, press/toggle the button on that panel 3 times also can add the network (To make the external panel work, set the parameter 14 with value 1, 2, 3 or 4).

What is Z-Wave?

Z-Wave is the international wireless protocol for communication in the Smart Home. This device is suited for use in the region mentioned in the Quickstart section.

Z-Wave ensures a reliable communication by reconfirming every message (two-way communication) and every mains powered node can act as a repeater for other nodes (meshed network) in case the receiver is not in direct wireless range of the transmitter.

This device and every other certified Z-Wave device can be used together with any other certified Z-Wave device regardless of brand and origin as long as both are suited for the same frequency range.

If a device supports secure communication it will communicate with other devices secure as long as this device provides the same or a higher level of security. Otherwise it will automatically turn into a lower level of security to maintain backward compatibility.

For more information about Z-Wave technology, devices, white papers etc. please refer to www.z-wave.info.

Product Description

Dimmer Switch is a wall panel built-in with Z-Wave Plus module. With its stylish design and stable performance, the panel can be used to control the light level. It supports basic command class, multi channel command class and multi channel association command class, also works as a repeater in a Z-Wave network. This product can be included and operated in any Z-Wave network with other Z-Wave certified devices from any other manufacturers.

Prepare for Installation / Reset

Please read the user manual before installing the product.

In order to include (add) a Z-Wave device to a network it must be in factory default state. Please make sure to reset the device into factory default. You can do this by performing an Exclusion operation as described below in the manual. Every Z-Wave controller is able to perform this operation however it is recommended to use the primary controller of the previous network to make sure the very device is excluded properly from this network.

Reset to factory default

This device also allows to be reset without any involvement of a Z-Wave controller. This procedure should only be used when the primary controller is inoperable.

Press 10 times of any button or exclude the device from Z-Wave network, then cut off the main power. The factory setting will be restored.

Safety Warning for Mains Powered Devices

ATTENTION: only authorized technicians under consideration of the country-specific installation guidelines/norms may do works with mains power. Prior to the assembly of the product, the voltage network has to be switched off and ensured against re-switching.

Installation

Step 1: Separate the device into two parts: the touch panel and the bottom.
Step 2: Insert all wires into the right terminals by following the wiring diagrams as below, and tighten screws.
Step 3: Secure the bottom part onto a junction box with screws, and then mount the
Step 4: Confirm the device is well mounted, power on and it is ready to operate.

Note: S1, S2, Sx are optional terminals for an external dimmer panel input.

Inclusion/Exclusion

On factory default the device does not belong to any Z-Wave network. The device needs to be added to an existing wireless network to communicate with the devices of this network. This process is called Inclusion.

Devices can also be removed from a network. This process is called Exclusion. Both processes are initiated by the primary controller of the Z-Wave network. This controller is turned into exclusion respective inclusion mode. Inclusion and Exclusion is then performed doing a special manual action right on the device.

Inclusion

Exclusion

1. Set controller into Remove mode, and press 3 clicks on "+" or "-" button to remove. If succeed, green LED flicks 4 times.
2. If an external switch panel wired, press/toggle the button on that panel 3 times also can remove the network (To make the external panel work, set the parameter 14 with value 1, 2, 3 or 4).

Product Usage

Dimming Mode Setting:
The panel can be manually configured or automatically detect different light source by following the steps as below:

1. Touch “+” 4 times and its green LED flashes, then touch “-” 4 times and 2 green LED flashes for 3 sec. The panel enters Dimming mode setting.

2. During setting, the “+” LED color will inform the current dimming mode:
Leading edge for inductive loads
Trailing edge for capacitive or resistive loads On/off only Automatically detection
Orange LED flashing Green LED flashing Orange and Green LEDs flashing together
Orange and Green LEDs flashing alternately

3. Touch “-” will switch among the four modes:

Leading edge -> Trailing edge -> On/off only -> Auto detection -> Leading E...

4. Touch “+” to confirm the mode you chose, the mode’s LED color will flash 3 sec to finish the setting. If Auto detection chosen, pls wait the panel to detect the light source and confirm leading
edge or trailing edge dimming itself.

Manual Operation:
1. When powered on, hold "+/-" button will dimming the light level up or down.(Not valid when the dimming mode is “on/off only”)
2. Double click of “+” will turn on the light to the brightness level, and double click of “-” will turn off the light.

Energy Consumption Monitoring:
When requested by controller, the panel will report voltage, current and power consumption (the command class which support this function is Meter Command Class).
The dimming percentage when single touch of button “+” or “-”

1. Parameter 0x0B is used to set the value.
For instance: The current light level is 0, and the set value is 16. When first single touch “+”, the light level will reach 16, and the second single touch of “+” will make the level reach 32, single touch “- ” will make it back to 16 again.
2. Hold the “+” or “-” and release, the changed light level percentage during the holding will be saved and performed in the next single touch dimming.

Notification:
1. Parameter 32 and 33 are used to set the notification threshold.
2. When enabled, will send unsolicited notification frame to gateway.

Quick trouble shooting

Here are a few hints for network installation if things dont work as expected.

  1. Make sure a device is in factory reset state before including. In doubt exclude before include.
  2. If inclusion still fails, check if both devices use the same frequency.
  3. Remove all dead devices from associations. Otherwise you will see severe delays.
  4. Never use sleeping battery devices without a central controller.
  5. Dont poll FLIRS devices.
  6. Make sure to have enough mains powered device to benefit from the meshing

Association - one device controls an other device

Z-Wave devices control other Z-Wave devices. The relationship between one device controlling another device is called association. In order to control a different device, the controlling device needs to maintain a list of devices that will receive controlling commands. These lists are called association groups and they are always related to certain events (e.g. button pressed, sensor triggers, ...). In case the event happens all devices stored in the respective association group will receive the same wireless command wireless command, typically a 'Basic Set' Command.

Association Groups:

Group Number Maximum Nodes Description
1 1 Lifeline - Send unsolicited reports to the gateway
2 5 Send Switch_Multilevel CC to associated devices
5 5 Associate with Key “+” Send Basic Set CC to associated devices
8 5 Associate with Key “-” Send Basic Set CC to associated devices

Configuration Parameters

Z-Wave products are supposed to work out of the box after inclusion, however certain configuration can adapt the function better to user needs or unlock further enhanced features.

IMPORTANT: Controllers may only allow configuring signed values. In order to set values in the range 128 ... 255 the value sent in the application shall be the desired value minus 256. For example: To set a parameter to 200 it may be needed to set a value of 200 minus 256 = minus 56. In case of a two byte value the same logic applies: Values greater than 32768 may needed to be given as negative values too.
